PLANET3 WIRELESS ANNOUNCES FORMAL CREATION OF CWNP® STRATEGIC ADVISORY BOARD

Board of business experts, academics and market influencers to provide Planet3 management with strategic insight and feedback

ATLANTA, October 29, 2002 Planet3 Wireless, Inc., the creators of the CWNP Program, today announced the formal appointment of the CWNP Strategic Advisory Board, formed to provide the company with ongoing advice, introductions and feedback.

As the CWNP program continues to gain momentum as the IT Industry's standard for wireless LAN training and certification, the Board will offer ongoing guidance from content-related strategic planning to corporate and business development. Planet3's appointments to the Board consist of respected individuals from business, media and academic fields. The initial appointments are:
  • Jim Geier - Author and Principal Consultant for Wireless-Nets, Ltd.
  • Mark Ciampa - Author and Director of Academic Computing and Associate Professor of Computer Information Systems at Volunteer State Community College.
  • Dave Molta - Assistant Professor of Information Studies at Syracuse University, Senior Technology Editor with Network Computing magazine, Director of Syracuse University's Center for Emerging Network Technologies (CENT).
  • Keith Parsons - Managing Director of the Institute for Network Professionals.
  • Jon Rolph - Managing Vice President, International Network Services, Inc. (INS)
  • Cary Chandler - President and CEO, Vadum Technologies, Inc.
"As the CWNP program solidifies a leadership position in the IT training and certification space, the insight of our Advisory Board will be invaluable in developing our ongoing growth plan, distribution strategy and content positioning," said Kevin Sandlin, Planet3 Wireless CEO and co-founder. "The group we have assembled will give us valuable, unique perspective as we continue to bring on new customers and establish the industry standard for wireless LAN training and certification."

About the CWNP Advisory Board

Jim Geier is the founder and principal consultant of Wireless-Nets, Ltd., an independent consulting firm that assists companies in the development and deployment of wireless LAN products and systems. His 20 years of experience deals with the analysis, design, software development, installation, and support of numerous client/server and wireless network-based systems for enterprises, airports, homes, retail stores, manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and hospitals throughout the world.

Jim is the author of several books: 802.11 Unleashed, Wireless LANs, Wireless Networking Handbook, and Network Reengineering, as well as numerous articles. He is a voting member within the Wireless Ethernet Compatibility Alliance (WECA), responsible for certifying interoperability of 802.11 (Wi-Fi) wireless LANs. He served as Chairman of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) Computer Society, Dayton Section, and Chairman of the IEEE International Conference on Wireless LAN Implementation. He has been an active member of the IEEE 802.11 Working Group, responsible for developing international standards for wireless LANs. Jim's education includes a bachelor's and master's degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in business administration.

Mark Ciampa - Mark Ciampa is the Director of Academic Computing and Associate Professor of Computer Information Systems at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tennessee. He has authored several textbooks for Course Technology, including Network Administrator: Netware 4.1, Networking Basics, and A Guide to Designing and Implementing Wireless LANs. Mark received his Master's degree in Computer Information Systems from Middle Tennessee State University. He has served as a computer consultant for several state organizations and businesses in computer applications and networking, such as the US Postal Service, the University of Tennessee, and the Tennessee Municipal Technical Advisory Service. He is a frequent speaker at national and regional technology conferences.

Dave Molta - As Assistant Professor of Information Studies at Syracuse University, Dave Molta teaches classes on information technology and information systems, drawing on over 15 years of experience in managing computer and network systems. Molta also holds two other positions, the first as Senior Technology Editor with Network Computing magazine, and the second as Director of Syracuse University's Center for Emerging Network Technologies (CENT).

Keith Parsons - Keith Parsons is Managing Director of the Institute for Network Professionals and is Editor-in-Chief for NICs (the associations technical journal). A gifted presenter, Keith is known for his wit and broad technical experience. He holds 24 technical certifications and has earned an MBA from the Marriott School of Management. He is author (or editor) of a dozen technical publications and has developed six technical certifications. He travels throughout North America, Europe, Asia and Australia in behalf of a wide variety of IT vendors, explaining their products to networking professionals.

Jon Rolph - Rolph has spent the last 10 years at International Network Services, as one of the first 20 employees, through their IPO and later acquisition by Lucent, and now as Managing Vice President in the newly re-established independent INS. Among his most notable achievements at INS were the building of the Southwest region, software development for an early INS network management application, and a leading role in the creation of the highly successful KnowledgeQuest training and collaboration program. During his early years at INS, Rolph worked on a number of significant consulting engagements including the new Hong Kong airport at Chek Lap Kok, and was one of the earliest recipients of the CCIE certification. In addition to his position at International Network Services, Rolph serves as a technology advisor to venture firm Watershed Capital. Before entering the network industry 12 years ago, Rolph held a broad spectrum of technology-related jobs, ranging from a scanning electron microscope operator at a microelectronics research facility to ballast computer system repair on drilling rigs in Korea and the North Sea.

Cary Chandler - Cary Chandler is the President and CEO of Vadum Technologies. Cary has over 20 years of experience in management, marketing, sales and business development in the technology, insurance and export trading fields. As vice president of sales & marketing for start-up ADAM Software, he led an award winning marketing team. Cary developed strategic alliances with major multinationals around the world and opened software distribution and licensing channels in 55 countries. Cary grew sales by 1000% over four years leading to a successful IPO in 1995. Prior to joining ADAM, Cary worked in the international and national sales & marketing groups of J&H/Marsh & McClennan, the world's largest insurance brokerage. He also co-founded an international export-trading firm in 1983, developing sales in 25 countries on five continents. Cary holds a Bachelors degree in Economics from Auburn University and completed his AMP at the University of Oxford (UK), Templeton College.
