SYMBOL TECHNOLOGIES ADOPTS CWNP PROGRAM

Symbol to require Worldwide VAR Partners to earn CWNA, Spectrum24, and CWSP Certifications

ATLANTA, Georgia December 12, 2002 - Planet3 Wireless, Inc., the creators of the CWNP Program, today announced that Symbol Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: SBL), a global leader in mobile information management systems, has adopted Planet3's CWNP Program for Symbol's worldwide VAR training and certification program. The Symbol VAR Certification program will be launched in early 2003.

Beginning in January of 2003, Symbol will require all wireless LAN VAR Partners to achieve both the CWNA certification and the Spectrum24 Certification, both developed by Planet3. All Symbol Level 2 Technical VARs will be required to achieve the new CWSP® certification. All CWNP certification exams and the new Spectrum24 Certification Exam are delivered through Prometric Testing Centers worldwide.

Frank Rose, Chief Learning Officer at Symbol University, commented, "Symbol has begun the process of thoroughly educating our VAR channel sales and engineering force, and the CWNP Program provides the highest quality technical education for wireless LANs in the industry. The value of a third party training and measurement system for Symbol's VAR partners adds value to our VAR channel and provides a huge savings of resources for Symbol University." Symbol University will provide Symbol-specific CWNA classes to prepare VARs for the CWNA and Spectrum24 certifications.

Kevin Sandlin, Planet3 Wireless' CEO and Co-Founder, said, "We purposely built the CWNP curriculum for exactly this type of relationship. Symbol VARs will now thoroughly learn wireless LAN technology through the CWNA curriculum, and by using only Symbol wireless LAN equipment in the CWNA labs, VARs will receive one week of hands-on training using Symbol gear. This is a superb combination of vendor-neutral and product-specific training, and it also prepares every student for the two certification exams.

"It is an incredible honor to have gained the trust and confidence of a market leader like Symbol. This relationship further solidifies the CWNP Program as the industry standard for wireless LAN training and certification," added Sandlin.

Symbol University will begin registration for Symbol-specific CWNA classes in January. The first class will be delivered the week of January 27. The Spectrum24 Certification Exam will also be available at Prometric Testing Centers the same week. The new CWSP class, Wireless LAN Security, is available around the U.S. starting January 6 in Atlanta. The CWSP certification exam will be available at Prometric Testing Centers in the first quarter of 2003.
