Joliet Junior College Offers Wireless# Course

ATLANTA, Georgia, January 29, 2007 Joliet Junior College (JJC), the nation's oldest public community college, has rolled out a new program of study for Wireless #(Sharp) certification. The college is the first in the nation to offer the course and is being recognized by local business leaders for presenting innovative training options to the community.

"The class has really taken-off; we've seen interest in the course from people with a variety of backgrounds. I believe the attraction of the course is that it teaches the fundamentals of wireless, which is in high-demand," said JJC assistant professor Joe Sullivan, who teaches the course at the college. "We're fortunate to have incorporated equipment into our training curriculum to provide for a hands-on approach to wireless."

The entry-level course aids professionals who install or support home and office wireless networks that serve a small number of users by covering topics, such as Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth, WiMAX, Infrared, and ZigBee. Sullivan has worked with industry members to participate in the class as guest speakers. The course was a response to the market's need for trained industry professionals with wireless technology skills.

"We are receiving requests for additional training for wireless certification. We will likely package the courses within our Cisco Networking degree and offer future classes in areas, such as CWNA and CWSP," Sullivan added. "We're very happy with the outcome thus far, and we look forward to continuing to offer training for the community through additional certification programs."
