One of the questions on the practice test asked which kinds of cabling (10BaseT,100BaseT,1000BaseT,1000BaseFX) alternative B PSEs can be used with as defined by 802.3af.
I chose all but the optical cable. The correct answer was only 10BaseT and 100BaseT.
I know that the 1000BaseT cables were not able to be used with midspan devices at first, but to me, the question said nothing about midspan devices. Part of the explanation was: "Alternative B PoE power-sourcing equipment is commonly known as a midspan device."
This sounds weird to me. Is this true?
From what the study guide says, 1000BaseT cables could receive power from endpoint devices.
