  • I think you can do a little of both. The solution I work with allows for me to select what to do with traffic. I can encapsulated it and route it or bridge it local and use the AP as the authenticator and traffic filter. I think it might not be prudent to eliminate the controller all together, but rather reduce the controller expense (commodity hardware) and have a robust enough AP (RAM/CPU) to handle Filtering/Authenticator/Encryption. I see where Devin is going with the controller cost, kind or reminds me of Encryption Gateways. By the way, anyone ever thing about the implications of IPv6 over wireless? I sure have, Devin may be correct in the long run about controllers going by the wayside.
