  • Thanks for the feedback -- good stuff. Yeah, this was interesting to me, too.

    Part of the reason I ask is that I read nothing in 802.11 'that I recall' that states this when a client isn't associated. I do understand the 802.11 mechanisms for RTS/CTS when a client is *associated*. Indeed, it would make a lot of sense to locate based on a passive approach, but I can see why they would like initiate the timing of the client transmissions otherwise it couldn't control the client behavior.

    If I had more time when I posted this I would have shared the data, but me and another guy went though the data together and it's definitely my machine's MAC. (filtered from a drop-down list. Plus I know it by heart when doing traces, etc.)

    The client software, I still have a hunch, is playing some role in the puzzle.

    Any other insights are appreciated.
