  • At Connect802, when we design a wireless network, we start with the minimum signal strength and SNR requirements that the manufacturer of the radio specifies. We then add a fade margin of 10 dB to 20 dB to the required signal strength, depending on the desired performance. For most designs, we use 10 dB. 20 dB would only be used in very critical networks, in which uninterrupted performance was absolutely necessary. Each radio has different minimum SNR and signal strength requirements for each data rate, so starting with the manufacturer's specifications is a good bet.
