Thanks for that....I kept using WEP key generator instead of wireless key generator and was getting some very different results. This looks to be exactly what the doctor ordered.

If you want source code for an algorithm that uses MD5 to transform a passphrase into WEP keys then have a look at the firmware source code for the Linksys WRT54G at http://www.linksys.com/support/gpl.asp. There are two C source code files that you will need. It's a silly little algorithm, but it works.
