    I think the Smartbridge you are using has surge protection, but it doesn't have the lightening protection based on code. This varies from place to place. Overseas, I am unsure of the requirements. There are products from Smartbridge that have internal lightning protection as well. Grounding the chassis to the building would be a requirement .

    * Note: The surge protection circuit of powerShot does not eliminate the need of Lightening Protection and Grounding that conforms to the Standards of the National Electric Code (NEC) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
