    In this case -- you are right.

    For the IEEE case matters and upper case means "standalone standard" rather than "amendment to a standalone standard". Probably the case most often used incorrectly is "IEEE 802.1x."

    The only IEEE 802.11 document with an upper case letter has been 802.11F. It was a recommended practice (until it was withdrawn 03Feb2006) hence the case confusion.
