  • Hi, what is the diference obout metro WiFi and Mesh? or is the same definition for both? i wnat to know the diferences when you call metro WiFi, mesh networking, WiMAX and other wireless municipal technologies.....

    Can somebody help?

  • WiFi is the generic term we give to the 802.11A, B, G (and N?) technologies. 802.11A/B/G is the technology that allows two devices to communicate with each other.

WiMax is a term we apply to 802.16. This is typically used by wISPs, but uptake has hardly been staggering (in the UK anyway). WiMax seems more popular in Australia and other 'big' places where cable/fibre is too expensive for their dispersed communities.

MESH is a network topology that is becomming very popular in urban wireless deployments. Nodes in MESH communicate with each other using 802.11A/G, and the 'MESH' is a network-layer protocol that allows the network to be dynamic. Look up things like AWPP / LWAPP / 802.11s...
