  • Hi all,

I just want to know at what speed the beacons are transmitted on wireless network.

    TIA

  • They should be sent at a BSS basic rate. It seems to depend on AP manufacturer. For HR-DSSS and ERP-OFDM, default BSS basic rates on most APs include at least 1 and 2 Mbps.

Some APs always send beacons at 1Mbps, some will send at 2Mbps. I did a quick scan using OmniPeek, which shows about 3 mixed mode BSS transmitting beacons at 1Mbps and 2 transmitting beacons at 2Mbps.

If your AP is transmitting beacons at 2Mbps or a higher basic rate if set, this may decrease your APs range. Beacons sent at 1Mbps would give the greatest range. I don't think the beacon data rate is generally tuneable - does anyone have any experiences with this?
