That really depends on the quality of the device and its ability to isolate RF ie prevent it from bleeding out so to speak. I suspect there is some degradation from the close proximity. In the cases where I used them the benefits outweighed that aspect.

As you mentioned they are not a typical install or the preferred methodology. But in the situations I was involved with, it saved from adding a second device on each tower.
