Of course the AP will still have to arbitrate for the CTS so yes it is DIFS + Backoff + CTS etc.

My thought was, what if the CTS frame had enough duration to shut down the client STA's in the area so three APs (just a random number) could each send a frame without arbitrating. Since the controller is in ultimate control, it could send the data to the AP and tell it not to arbitrate, just wait a SIFS then send the next frame. Of course this isn't standard by any means, but I thought it was a plausible idea.
