  • So who is the resident Back Track 2 expert? Seems like a great live CD but I don't fully understand on how to use all the tools. Anybody have any links to help docs?

Be sure you are looking at the one listed with a 2006 copyright.

This book was written around Auditor, which is an ancestor of BackTrack. It provides a good introduction on how to use these tools for penetration testing.

Even if you aren't trying to do ethical hacking as part of a security assessment for clients, sometimes running simple port scans and Nessus against your firewall or machines can be eye-opening. Most people make careless errors, like opening a firewall port for testing and forgetting about it. Regular checks, or checking after every configuration change, is good policy.

    Thank you.
