  • OK, I know this seems like a strange question, but here goes...

Say I have an access point with 100mw output power, and I add a 3db gain antenna, then I have to drop the output power to 50mw to keep the EIRP to 100mw (here in Europe)

So, the question is, what's the advantage to adding a higher gain antenna if you need to drop the power - if you are standing say 50m away, you are still going to receive the same signal...

I see where this would be relevant for panel and directional antennas, but for Omni antennas, there's no advantage...

So why can I buy different dB omni's for my access points ?

    Comments appreciated.

    Thanks.
