  • This is a quick guess, but the IEEE doesn't like to get their technology right on the border with FCC licensed or otherwise reserved bands. If there were a device on 5.160, then it would spread a minimum to 5.150. However, since all radios are not perfect animals, the IEEE protects its technology by not getting so close to licensed bands.

    Take 2.4GHz for example, FCC says 2.4000 - 2.4835 range. However, the IEEE says 2.402 - 2.48 is their range.
