  • Greetings,

I'm looking for a way to disable 802.11b in a 802.11ag environment. The wireless hardware is all Cisco (variety of controllers and 1242s, same problem on each) and my method so far has been to disable all CCK data rates (1,2,5.5,11) and require or support all OFDM rates (6,9,12,18,24,36,48,54) under the 802.11b/g Global Parameters.

After doing this, I've looked at my controller statistics and independently checked using AirMagnet WiFi Analyzer: still 802.11b traffic going across my network. Is my goal possible? Is there any way - even with another vendor - to truly disable 802.11b in a 2.4GHz environment?

    Thanks in advance!

  • If you can control required rates on that gear make 12 a required rate. Since B clients can not do 12 they will not be able to connect.

Keep in mind this will not stop 802.11b protect mode if the B traffic is near by.
