  • Greetings all,

I am troubleshooting a wireless LAN running Cisco controller firmware 4.2.61. I just noticed that the short slot time capability info is not being cleared and that this bug is mentioned in the release notes. It doesn't indicate whether the AP actually uses short slot times or just doesn't clear the bit. A good number of non-ERP and ERP STAs share this network. I am trying to sort out what kind of effect this might have on 802.11b throughput. This affects wait times for ACKs, RTS/CTS, backoff, and more I'm sure (as I slowly wade through the spec). Is it a recipe for disaster even with relatively low amounts of ERP data or not such a big deal unless there is a lot of data to contend with? Speficially we are looking at voice quality issues.

I am currently capturing via Airmagnet sensors, so I don't have a lot of info to go from yet to gauge the actual effect. I hoped some of you all might share your thoughts if you have encountered this elsewhere!

    Thanks,
    David
