    I stumbled across this post looking for something else. There is a general misunderstanding here.
    The Intel(r) Wlan (11n) adapters rate scale based on a number of factors- including data + quality of the data over time. This includes decisions on MIMO antenna vs SISO, assuming the connection can maintain higher MCS rates via MIMO based on the quality of the data xfer.
    If you are seeing the device scale down- there are likely good reasons, from the client driver perspective. Personally - I would not be too concerned unless you see behavior inconsistent between laptops (mutilple laptops with 4965 that show significant difference in behavior in the same setup/ test).
    My assumption here is that this is a typical enterprise layout- with Cisco LWAP, autonomous or similar.
