  • I started out with my A+ and Net+, then I moved on to CCNA, and it was a natural progression to CCNP and onward after that. My first "tech job" came after I'd gotten my A+ and Net+, and was working on my MCP for W2K at the time. Even though my day job didn't really pertain to the CCNA, I kept on studying. I knew I wanted to stay on the "dark side" at the CLI, but I didn't come across wireless as a technology until 2002/2003.

I also think that practical knowledge goes hand in hand with a certification. We can't always choose which we do first, but I know that the certification acronyms will certainly get you through the HR keyword filter when you're job searching.
