  • I took a CWNA practice test yesterday and one question was about frame fragmentation, and I got it wrong. The correct answer was about multicast and broadcast frames NOT being fragmented. I figured out that management and control frames aren't fragmented for obvious reasons, but what about broadcast/multicast frames send from outside the BSS?

  • The reason for fragmenting frames is to increase their reliability across the medium. Each fragment would need to be acknowledged.

Since multi/broadcast frames can't be ACK'd, then there is no reason to fragment them.

  • Thanks.
