Protect SSID

  • Hi Chong:

There is no such thing as a strong SSID. Some are more useful; some are less useful. They are all exposed.

My SSID at home is -- The Hyde Family ESS. If my neighbor wishes I would use a different channel or power level she will be politely knocking on my door for a talk. This is the way it should be.

Dynamic WEP is a proprietary way to change standard IEEE 802.11 WEP keys periodically and/or occasionally. All the problems of WEP continue although breaking successive keys may be more than a casual hacker cares to keep up with. But a motivated hacker will be undeterred. WEP is highly deprecated by the IEEE and for most situations today it is worse than a waste of time to use WEP.

I hope this helps. Thanks. /criss
