Universal Wireless Repeater Mechanism

Hi Experts,

I want to know about Universal Wireless Repeater Technical Explanation.

I mean like this, on D-Link AP DWL-2100AP, with fw 2.40eu. We can set as universal wireless repeater and connect to other root AP. But i found when the repeater connected to root AP, the root AP "see" repeater with virtual mac address which is first 16 bit of mac address always 00:B2 and the rest (32 bit) is from last 32 bit of Root AP Mac Address.

I want to know how usually universal repeater work? does it work like those mechanism like i mentioned above? or any standardization of universal repeater mechanism? Any technical whitepaper that i can read to more understand about this features? i notified almost AP has this function.
