  • Hi All.

It's been a while since i visited. Looks like the community is growing. :)

I've got a simple question for you guys.

    Here's the scenario.

Small hotel with 80 rooms needs an internet access.

I've read somewhere there are software used which refers to as hotspot servers. any suggestions?
    - i believe these tools handle user mangement.
    - user access
    -user login page

for 80 rooms.. whats an ideal bandwidth allocation?
Also, for the wifi spots, can i just use ordinary home based routers?

i am a network engineer but not a wlan engineer.. ;)

    thanks all!!

  • I would like to talk to you about this project.
We have installed wireless at many Hospitality clients and I think I can answer your questions. Bandwidth, routers, access points, coverage, login screen via captive portal etc.

    Thanks

  • I have a few questions and advice:

    - What type of hotel? Does it cater to business people or just "regular" folks?

    - Don't skimp on equipment. I've installed about 50 hotels and I made the mistake of thinking that some vendors are good enough. I probably wouldn't have gotten some business if I had charged more for good equipment, but it would have been better in the long run.

    - Are your AP's installed? Have you chosen a vendor?

    - Don't mess with software for your hotspot gateway. Get a piece of hardware that will do the job. Zyxel has a nice little gateway that is sub $500. Nomadix is ok, but way too complicated for something that simple.

    - Budget?

    - Interior or exterior property? Drop ceilings?
