It's not just a matter of manufacturers wanting to make the change. It's also a matter of customers wanting to pay for the new equipment. If nobody asks for it, manufacturers probably aren't going to change it.

As an example, most manufacturers know that using WEP is foolish, but keep supporting it because the customers still demand it.
