  • What are 1)the make and model of the device you are testing?  2) What radio is in it, and 3) what chipset is actually in the radio (Marvell, Atheros,  etc.)?

    Without a completed PICS, probably the only hints you'll get are from the Wi-Fi certifications in the first two categories and then compare them to the certification that the chipset manufacturer may have listed for it under reference design.   Compare this to the PICS Outline in the 802.11 standard, and this may give you a clearer picture. 

    Unfortunately, not all certified devices are listed - that is up to the manufacturer.  There are only 114 devices currently listed as "Reference Designs" .   With luck the one your interested in will be there. 

    Looking at the actual frames is probably the most accurate way to go.   As Tom says "frames are food".
