  • Hi,

If you configure an AP with Basic rate as only 54 Mbps.

Then some old D-link cards send this rate in extended rate element and supported rate element IE is present but the length is 0. (But the same works with new d-link cards (same product))

Standard clearly says the Supported rate element should be (1-8).
So we rejected the association saying unspecified failure.

But the tester were arguing that it associates with Cisco and it is Wi-Fi certified, hence we should also allow the same.

I have argued that Cisco does many things which violate standard. We should decide whether we should follow cisco or standard. But they were not conviced.

Can anybody comment on the above problem....???

    With regards,
    Murali

  • There is no forced compliance with the IEEE standards. Even within the standards there is some ?¡é?€??wiggle room". So two devices may be compliant with the IEEE standard but may not work together i.e. Roaming.

Are both of the devices WiFi alliance certified to support the same features? The WiFi certification indicates interpretability within the standatds.
