So its clear that all stations have to process all on-channel frames at the MAC layer to determine if they're intended for them. Could it be that the medical device vendors have devised a way to interrogate the frame for their associated BSSID, and if not discard it, preventing further processing, even if the frame is broadcast/multicast (normally designated for additional LLC sublayer processing)? Or is this already implicit in being on a different (B)SSID?
