  • Govind,

I had to look this up because I recalled reading about multicast frames being sent at basic rates, which makes sense. Here is the standards entry:

"All frames with multicast and broadcast in the Address 1 field that have a UP of zero shall be transmitted at one
of the rates included in the BSSBasicRateSet parameter, regardless of their type or subtype."

Your other question was in regards to protection while sending multicast frames. This is all I could find that is relevant:

"In the absence of a PCF, when broadcast or multicast MPDUs are transferred from a STA with the To DS field clear, only the basic access procedure shall be used. Regardless of the length of the frame, no RTS/CTS exchange shall be used."

I did a search for cts-to-self and I could not find any reference to a difference between unicast and multicast traffic.

    GT
