  • I am starting to think there is a small error in the example given on page 110 or that I still dont fully understand the calculation.

    The link budget all adds up ok and I think I get it.  What I cant seem to confirm is how the FSPL was calculated to read -83dB when using a FPSL calculator

    FPSL calculator: https://www.pasternack.com/t-calculator-fspl.aspx

    Following the example in the book, I have transferred these numbers into the calculator:

    Distance = 200m

    Freqency = 5GHz

    Transmitter Gain = 24dB (20 dBm - 3 dB +7 dBi)

    Receiver Gain = 4dB (7 dBi - 3 dB)

    FPSL Result = 64.44 dB

    As it does not equal to -83 dB I cant say to myself that I fully understand the calculation

    Can someone confirm this please?

  • I can get closer by changing a few variables but still not -83 dB.  Tried a bit more research but still not convinced with the below:

    Distance = 200m

    Frequency = 2.4GHz

    Tx Gain = 0

    Rx Gain = 4 (7dBi - 3dB)

    FSPL = 82.06 dB

    another example I have seen would be to have the Tx and Rx set to 0 but this equates to -86.06 dB. This was configured this way because EIRP calculations were done.
