As M/Q stated and as wifi-student-addressed... these are some valid issues. It can be confusing. Please see if this helps in some way.

    In the beginning :
    - the IEEE 802.11 standards group said let there be encryption on 802.11 and let it be called WEP. WEP was created and it was good.

But according to the WI-FI Alliance and other angelic forces:WEP was not strong enough ,

-So the IEEE 802.11 standards group said, let there be a stronger cipher-suite added to WEP and let it be called TKIP.

Micheal (MIC) was appointed TKIP's Guardian Angel, protecting it against replay and forgery attacks.

WEP-TKIP-MIC. was a mouthful so the WI-FI Aliance called it WPA.

Hence WPA was created and it was good.

    WPA (begat) two twin sons:

    1- Personal
    2- Enterprise

    THEN THE FLOOD CAME:

The IEEE 802.11 standards group said, WPA is becoming lonely and weak, let's destroy it (dictionary attack) and create something fresh ,new and innovative.

Let's create a standard and call it 802.11i, but instead of using WEP-TKIP-MIC cipher-suite, let's use this encryption called AES.

The IEEE 802.11 standards group created, it and saw it was VERY good. They appointed CCMP to over look it and guard it against evil twins.

The WI-FI- Alliance saw 802.11i with AES and said that is a mouthful let's just name her WPA too.

Hence WPA2 was created and it was good

    WPA2 (begat) two twin sons:

    1- Personal
    2- Enterprise
