The LWAPP control channel requires that round-trip latency between the AP and the controller is less then 100ms. WAN link bandwidth must be at least 128kbps and you need a minimum of 500 byte MTU between AP and controller. This applies to LWAPP, CAPWAP and even H-REAP mode. I believe CAPWAP has Path MTU discovery built-in but no such equivalent exists in LWAPP.
