Not broadcasting the SSID will not hide it from passive scanners. 5 years ago this used to be the way to circumvent passive scanners. Now it doesn't matter. Airmagnet, Omnipeek, Kismet and a slew of other passive scanners can still pick up a non-broadcasted SSID. All it takes is for one STA to associate to a hidden SSID and the the jig is up.

As for faster roaming with broadcasting SSIDs, I don't see that as an advantage. The STA still has to send an active probe to determine the best AP to connect to.
