I would like to mirror some of the things said above. I have both A+ and Net+. The Net+ was a great base to start from. The basics of networking you learn in preparing for that cert is a great platform to build on. I am working on my CWNA right now.

I am currently working in an Aruba shop. I have my ACMA (the very basic Aruba cert). I have looked at getting the Ciscos as well, but right now I am sticking with the vendor neutral stuff because I think it will help with Aruba, and other systems that I may work on in the future.
