or you could buy a copy of PCTel's SoftAP (which locks itself to the MAC address of a wireless PC card) and then us a utility that can change the hardware MAC address of a wireless PC card to use it on several PCs at once....of course i don't recommend doing this in a production environment because it's a violation of licensing.

You can also setup a Unix/Linux box to work as a AP.

if you set up a linux box to act as an ap you are really not simulating the ap.
The original poster didn't make it clear for what purpose the AP was for but they did use the plural so I am guessing they need more than one. Afaik neither hostap nor hermesap have the capability to simulate more than one ap.
