Brad,
I have observed signals propagating through the HVAC ducting at one of the hospitals I worked on. I would be on the ground floor and in the middle of a building and suddenly I would get like a -75 to -80 dBm signal from three floors above. It is funny some ducts I've come across act like wave guides. Something you may want to test for.
