  • Has anyone seen this error before?

IEEE 802.11: deauthenticated due to local deauth request

This was seen in the hostapd log of an AP.

Many vendors use the generic hostapd code so though someone would have seen this.

    Does it relate to re-keying?

    The SSID is WPA2 PSK.

Client is not stable on wireless and AP reboot fixes the issue.

  • Ed,

I do not have much experience with hostapd, but I remember several years ago this problem popping up.   Both re-Keying and a low Entropy value used for the WPA2 random number calculation were blamed for causing this error message/condition.

You may find more information by searching on just the text of the error message, without including "hostapd" in the search too.

    Good luck.

  • To close the thread, a vendor AP code upgrade solved this somewhere down the line.

  • Thanks for the update.

It would be nice to know what exactly was changed, or what they corrected.   If you happen to know could you please include that information.

Unfortunately, it seems very few manufacturers/companies make this information public anymore.   So I am not expecting much.

    Thanks again.
