  • I've been tasked with troubleshooting one of our wireless bridge links.

We have 2 ENTERASYS RoamAbout bridges with 802.11bg cards in them. They connect two offices that are about 0.6 miles apart. We are using parabolic grid antennas for the connection.

The signal seems to be good. The stats are-

    SNR: 30 db
    Signal: -52 dbm
    Noise: -88 dbm

I have the transmit and mulipath speeds set at 54 Mbps fixed rate. Local and remote recieve rates hold steady at 5.4 Mbps.

The problem is that I'm seeing a large number of recieve errors on both ends of the connection. The connection occasionally drops. If you do a ping -t to the remote bridge you will see it timing out frequently.

We recently adjusted the alignment of the dishes but that didn't seem to have any affect. My boss is considering buying new equipment but I want to make sure I know what the problem is so we don't have the same problem with the new equipment.

What are some possible causes here? My co-worker reports the fresnel zone is clear. Multipath? Interference of some kind??

    Thanks for any suggestions...
