  • I was wondering if anyone knew a general value in dB, that going from a 1x1 versus a 2x2 versus a 3x3 has on receive.  How much does MRC help the receive?

A follow up question is, let's say there is a 6db improvement on the uplink due to having a 3x3 radio over a 1x1.  Most clients are SISO (1x1).  The CWNA says to always "match" TX power for AP and the clients, but wouldn't it make sense to "match" this by raising the TX power 6db more than the SISO client radio so then RX heard by the AP and the TX from AP heard by the client is equal?

    Thanks!

  • By far, the more important thing in receive mode is not power, but Sensitivity.

MIMO requires a better SNR than SISO - several dB worth, and as the number of streams increase, our friendly "regulatory domains" usually demand lower output power (maximums).

So increasing the power level may not be an option.

It does no good for the client to hear the AP if the AP can't hear the client.
