  • I have always understood it to be good practice to use the same vendor access point type as you are going to use in production. For instance if you are going to deploy Cisco 1200s you should survey with Cisco 1200s or if you are using Aruba then you should survey with Aruba equipment. I have come across a group that is telling my boss that at the end of the day RF is RF and it doesnt matter. Thoughts?

  • Sorry forgot to put in when doing a site survey.

Using the same AP for the site survey as you are installing will obviously work, but you can use any AP as long as you set the transmit power, know the gain of the antenna(s) you are using and do your RF math, RF is RF.
If you are buying Cisco 1200's for the install, using one of them for the site survey is a mistake free way of doing it. Otherwise double check your math and use what you have available for the survey.
